At Virginia Biological Dentistry, patients who are looking for a dentist “near me” to provide restorations often don’t think about considering the benefits of working with a professional who provides same-day dental crowns, bridges, and veneers. Dr. Olivia Hart is proud to offer patients solutions that can be achieved in one day!
When patients need dental crowns, the process used to be rather extensive. First, the dentist would prepare the tooth by removing a portion of the enamel. This ensures that when the final restoration is placed, there is no added bulk. Once the tooth is prepared, the dentist would take molds of the prepared tooth. These impressions are used to give the laboratory the shape they need. These molds are sent to a dental laboratory – sometimes states away – for the fabrication of the new restoration. The laboratory can sometimes take a week or two to complete these restorations for the dentist before they are sent to the dental office. In the meantime, the dentist would place a temporary crown over the tooth during the time the patient waits. Once the restoration has arrived at the dental office, the patient comes back in to the practice for the bonding of their new restoration. The entire process could take weeks.
However, with the use of CEREC CAD/CAM technology, patients can now enjoy same-day dental crowns. Dr. Olivia Hart prepares the tooth for the placement of the restoration, and then takes impressions which are digitized by specialized software. This software then sends the information to a milling machine to mill the restoration out of a block of porcelain while patients wait in the dental chair. Within approximately 20 minutes, the restoration is complete, and patients can have it bonded into place during the same dental visit. This entire process takes approximately 30 minutes – instead of weeks with the traditional method.
Yes! Same-day crowns and other restorations made with CEREC technology are just as durable and beautiful as those fabricated by a dental laboratory – and are created in a fraction of the time!
CEREC technology is not just for dental crowns. Patients can also enjoy the following repairs with CEREC:
Practically any restoration that is made in a ceramic laboratory with porcelain can be created with CEREC technology. Not every dental practice in the area invests in this kind of technology for their patients. At Virginia Biological Dentistry, we invest into our practice to provide advanced solutions for our patients to enjoy. Using CEREC technology saves everyone time, energy, and money, while providing quality restorations. Dr. Olivia Hart and her team are excited to offer this and many other options for our patients who are faced with the need of restorative care.
Our practice provides general, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry, and many of our restorations can be completed with the use of CEREC technology. We also avoid using metal in the smile, as we aim to be a mercury-free and mercury-safe practice. We do not place silver amalgam fillings, and instead replace them with safer alternatives such as composite resin or ceramic inlays. During an initial evaluation with our team, we can assess a patient’s smile and provide them with options for repair. We give our patients choices, so they never feel as though their treatment is out of their hands. We guide patients through the journey of obtaining a beautiful, healthy smile!
