Airway Health and Treatments for Children and Adults

At Virginia Biological Dentistry, Dr. Olivia Hart and her team are committed to providing both children and adults with services to help them achieve oral health and wellness–as well as airway health. Your oral cavity can become problematic in ensuring proper breathing and sleeping. This is why our team may evaluate you to determine if you or your child may benefit from airway health and treatments.

Why is airway health important?

Glen Allen, Virginia, area patients with obstructions in the airway or even improper alignment of the jaw may be at a higher risk of experiencing a wide range of oral health and medical issues that can be connected with these issues. With a proper diagnosis of your condition, Dr. Hart can determine the most appropriate treatments and therapies to solve the issue at hand. Below are some of the services and treatments we provide at our practice:

  • Myobrace – the Myobrace treatment is designed to be a preventative pre-orthodontic treatment for children that can specifically address the cause of crooked teeth to avoid the need for braces in the later years. This ensures natural growth and development for children and preteens who might otherwise require braces.
  • NightLase – the NightLase treatment is a unique laser procedure that tightens the soft tissues near the back of the mouth and throat to expand the airway and ensure better quality sleep and less snoring.
  • Dental appliance and night guards for TMJ/TMD – patients who have conditions such as temporomandibular joint disorder and bruxism (clenching and grinding of the teeth) may benefit from the use of oral appliances and night guards to maintain open airways and alleviate discomfort and pain associated with TMJ/TMD.
  • Myofunctional therapy – with specialized exercises, patients can use this physical therapy to improve breathing, speaking, swallowing, and even chewing!
  • Frenectomies – children and adults with tongue and lip ties can undergo a fast and easy procedure called a frenectomy to cut these tight tissues and improve the smile’s function.
  • Clear aligner therapies – patients with misaligned smiles who might otherwise require metal braces may instead want to ask about our clear aligner therapies to achieve straighter teeth and combat common issues associated with misalignment and malocclusion.
