Restore Your Gums to Health with Perio Protect® Gum Disease Treatment
If you are suffering from gingivitis or a more serious periodontal infection, you may be avoiding scheduling a dental appointment about it because typical teeth and gum disease treatments can be invasive and uncomfortable. At Virginia Biological Dentistry in Glen Allen, Virginia, Dr. Olivia Hart provides a novel treatment called Perio Protect® for comfortably treating gum disease right in the comfort of your own home. Gum disease can wreak havoc on your whole body, causing severe negative health consequences, so Dr. Hart takes your treatment seriously.
HOW PERIO PROTECT WORKS
Patients who have been diagnosed with gum disease often ask us how to treat periodontitis and whether there are options that might work besides flap surgeries or other invasive techniques. As a Perio Protect provider, Dr. Olivia Hart is now pleased to be able to answer “Yes!” to many patients!
While one of the most important things you can do at home to prevent gum disease is to take good care of your teeth and gums with regular brushing and flossing, those methods are unable to reach deep into the pockets that form beneath the gum line where bacteria thrive and cause decay and disease.
With Perio Protect treatment, patients are given Perio Trays® that are custom-fabricated for their individual mouth, and then a small dose of prescription medicine is placed in the tray, which you wear for a few minutes each day. The trays help place the medication in precisely the locations where it is most needed—in the pockets of periodontal disease. The medication contains a low concentration of antibacterial hydrogen peroxide, which:
- Gently kills disease-causing bacteria
- Freshens your breath
- Whitens your teeth
- Helps prevent new bacteria from colonizing
PERIO PROTECT AS PART OF YOUR COMPREHENSIVE GUM DISEASE TREATMENT PLAN
For some patients, Perio Protect treatment alone is enough to help restore their gums back to health. In patients with more severe cases of periodontitis, traditional methods such as scaling and root planing or flap surgery may be necessary, and Perio Protect serves as an important supplement to these treatments to help combat the disease and prevent it from progressing.
