Unique Hygiene Cleaning with Bio AIRFLOW®
Being an established patient at Virginia Biological Dentistry, you will experience the AIRFLOW® Treatment as part of your hygiene appointment.
AIRFLOW® is an innovative method of teeth cleaning which uses a device called EMS AIRFLOW®. EMS AIRFLOW® is a handheld device that uses kinetic energy to project a stream of controlled, high-pressure air, warm and always OZONATED water, and a powder, fluoride-free mixture. We only use high-tech Erythritol based powder that is specifically effective in removing Biofilm – a sticky film of bad bacteria and other harmful microorganisms; young calculus; surface stains; plaque; tartar; or food deposits. This minimally invasive treatment can remove these harmful elements from multiple surfaces, including enamel, soft tissue, dentine, restorations, implant surfaces and orthodontic appliances.
The mixture is also sprayed beneath the gumline to eradicate disease-causing bacteria without harming the gingival tissue.
AIRFLOW® effectively removes Biofilm and provides additional benefits for our patients. Biofilm is a collection of harmful bacteria that accumulates on surfaces in the mouth. When this bacteria feeds on the things you eat, especially sugar, it converts the biofilm into acid and causes dental decay. As biofilm is colorless and barely visible to the naked eye and grows every day, it is an ideal gateway for bacteria to enter your body. The type of bacteria that thrives in biofilm is called Porphyromonas Gingivitis, and it has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and pancreatic cancer, among other life-threatening diseases.
