Mini Munchee

Did you know that 80% of cranial facial growth occurs in the first 6 years of life?

At Virginia Biological Dentistry, our goal is not to just align and straighten teeth to improve appearance and bite but to also assist the growing child with the development of the healthiest possible airway for their age.

A healthy airway leads to better breathing, better sleeping, better overall health, better facial and jaw growth and can either treat or prevent the symptoms associated with Sleep Disordered Breathing and Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

The Mini Munchee is a soft preventative appliance we often utilize in biological dentistry to promote optimal jaw, airway, and facial growth.  This device is suitable for children from 18 months old and can include children up to 4 years old if their jaw width is narrow and they have a history of any of the following: lip or tongue tie, mouth breathing, open bite, history of sucking their fingers or a pacifier, food avoidance, or picky eating. By actively chewing this soft appliance, the body’s innate optimal functioning resumes. The reflexive response induced when this device is used triggers help with retraining the muscles around the jaws and mouth to hold an ideal position (occlusion), breathing, posture and sleep. The face is very sensitive, so the muscles do generally react quickly.

Even so, it takes at least 60 days to retrain a habit.

Chewing a Munchee is a great way to positively influence the growth, balance and function of the face and jaws at this critical time. We have found Myo Munchee incredibly helpful with our patients, especially when used in conjunction with Myofunctional Therapy.
