At Virginia Biological Dentistry, we know how essential it is to be aware of upcoming dental work that may need to be done for a child. While orthodontics is common in teenagers, there is another way to reduce or prevent the need for braces in the future. Dr. Olivia Hart of Glen Allen, Virginia, may recommend using a pre-orthodontic appliance known as the Myobrace.
Olivia Hart’s Myobrace treatment is an extraoral appliance. It must be removed for eating and brushing. There are no wires or braces to wear with this appliance, but instead a special mouthguard-like device. It is designed for children between the ages of five to eight years old who have unilateral crossbite (one side only). The appliance moves certain teeth into proper alignment without removing teeth through dental extraction procedures. The Myobrace uses expansion, rotation, and counter-clockwise pressure to open up space for overcrowded teeth to help guide your child’s permanent adult teeth into place. This may help reduce or even eliminate future orthodontic work, making it a highly desirable option for parents of young children with overcrowding and other bite alignment concerns.
Dr. Olivia Hart provides an initial consultation at Virginia Biological Dentistry to determine if your child may benefit from this treatment before the need for conventional orthodontic work. If you are interested in finding out more about the Myobrace treatment and determining if your child is a candidate, call the office at (804) 381-6238 to request an appointment. We are conveniently located in Glen Allen, VA, at 10446 Ridgefield Parkway and are open to new and returning patients and families in the community.
